July 01

Hi Stingrays,

Can you believe the season only as a little over two weeks left?! Time sure has flown by! Please remember these last sign in/sign out deadlines!

Parkway Deadline: July 7
Championships Deadline: July 7

No Practice Friday, July 3rd. Enjoy the long weekend, and get ready to focus and knuckle down to business for the last two weeks of the season.

Everyone participates in Champs. Each day consists of prelims and the top ten race in finals. Our goal is to get as many swimmers in finals as possible. The Medley Relay is on Saturday and the Free Relay is on Sunday. We are allowed an A and B relay for each event and usually have a pretty good idea who will compete in the Medley Relay. The freestyle results from Saturday help us determine who will swim in the Free relays on Sunday. Remember, relays take place AFTER finals each day. If your swimmer has been consistantly on an A or B relay, please plan on staying! Relays make a HUGE difference.

That said, last year our team had the lowest percentage of swimmers attend champs. Being the largest team, let's change that and get as close to 100% attendance as possible. Our team has a terrific chance of placing second, but we're aiming for the stars: FIRST PLACE! It can be a long weekend, but it's what we have been working towards day in and day out for the past three months.

It is guaranteed that ALL swimmers will drop time at Champs. The adrenaline from the environment mixed with the finely tuned skills never ceases to amaze the coaches (and the swimmers!).

Other important reminders:
Champs Brunch: Thursday, July 16th
Sun Splash: Sunday, JUly 12th
Awards Ceremony: Tuesday, July 21st
Meet of Champs: Aug 1 & 2

Thanks for what has been a GREAT season! Let's finish with a BANG! Have a safe and enjoyable 4th.

Thanks,
Coach Diane

Hello Stingrays,

CHECK IN TIME FOR THE INVITATIONAL IS 6:20AM TO 6:40AM
BE THERE ON TIME!

You must check in no later than 6:40am.  If you fail to arrive on time, you will be scratched from the meet.   We will have a designated check in table in our team area, which you will find upon arrival.  Our warm ups are from 6:50am to 7:10am.

I know it's early, so get the car loaded the night before, have the swimmers' suits next to the bed, and roll them from bed to car!

Remember to pack:
Food and fluids
Chairs for you, sleeping bags or blankets for the swimmers
Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses
Things to do: games, books, coloring books and pens etc, playing cards
Swimmer's equipment (towels, goggles, caps, and suit)

Thanks,

April 22

Hello Stingrays,

Our first swim meet is less than a month away.  The Invitational is unique in that a) all the teams will be participating and b) the swimmer chooses his/her events.  This Friday, April 24th, the sign in sheets will be posted on the bulletin boards.  Next to your name, you will put an "X" under any event your swimmer would like to swim.  A swimmer can swim as many as four events, or as few as one.  Despite the number of events, all swimmers must arrive for check in ON TIME.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 9am, meaning our check in time will be close to 7am.  This allows time for warm ups and pre-meet meetings.  As the meet gets closer, the exact check-in time will be announced.

If you do not sign in for the meet, I will not enter you in any events.  Please make sure you sign in by the FRIDAY, MAY 8TH DEADLINE.

The sign in/out process for future meets will be slightly different- stay tuned for more information.

Date of the Invitational:  Saturday, May 16th @ Arden Manor.

Janurary 2009

Welcome to the 2009 Sacramento Stingrays Swim Season!

Hello!  With the improvement and changes from last season still getting us pumped, the coaches have continued to fine-tune, assess, and shape the program to produce even better results!  The coaching staff for this season is as follows: Head Coach: Diane Peck.  Assistant Head Coach: Daniel Rodda.  Assistant Coaches: Andrew Garcia, Joe LaBriola, Anya McCall, Kyle O’Connor, Megan Shearer, and Margot Wolfersberger.  In addition to all of these well-qualified coaches, we will also have help from several of the Stingray swimmers!

Head Coach Diane and Assistant Head Coach Daniel have attended a coaching clinic to improve and expand our knowledge of the sport. We have learned information and gained tools that will assist us in creating and implementing an even more effective program.  The biggest change is DRYLAND!  Dryland training will help the swimmers increase their flexibility, muscle development, strength, power, and endurance.  As is with our water training, the dryland training will be appropriately matched to the swimmers’ capabilities.  Please refer to the practice schedule to find out when your swimmer must come to practice prepared for dryland (more information below).

We hope to provide the opportunity for the Stingrays to not only improve their strokes and times, but to also make new friends and find joy in this amazing sport.

The packet contains the workout schedule, practice rules, incentive programs and information that should be helpful to ensure positive communication between parents, swimmers and coaches throughout the season.

Once again, WELCOME to the 2009 season with the Sacramento Stingrays.  We hope you find this information helpful.  Check your family folders regularly for announcements and other information.  The bulletin boards near the girl’s bathroom will also be used as a form of communication.  There will be a meeting for new families on Tuesday, March 31st.  If you have any questions as the season progresses, please feel free to e-mail Diane at gostingrays@hotmail.com.  You may also speak to any of the coaches before or after practice.
